Anime Quest. Has a nice ring to it, huh? You'll remember that recently I posted asking for anime recommendations. I got a lot of good recs, some I followed up on, some I need to still. From those recs, and my own exploration, I'll sum up some of my latest findings.
Naruto - this was something I asked specifically about and after only one person responded, I decided to just bite the bullet and download it. Truthfully, I was surprised. I didn't expect the first episode to leave me feeling so heartbroken. That's really important to get me hooked to a series. I'm only on episode 4 yet (probably 5 and 6 tonight) but I have continued to enjoy the heartbreak, and the humor. Naruto is very funny.
Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge - Narutofan.com describes it like this: Kyouhei, Ranmaru, Takenaga, and Yukinojou are beautiful, handsome, young men living in a huge mansion. One day, their landlord, whom they call "Auntie", asks them a favor: to make her niece, Sunako, who's going to be living with them, into a respectable young lady. She agrees to make their living expenses free of charge if they succeed but, if they fail, she'll triple their rent. Due to their confidence in knowing how to deal with women, they agree but, once they meet Sunako, they begin to realize that their lovely living arrangements may soon be in jeopardy.
Okay so, admittedly, I don't know how I found this one. And from the description, it doesn't sound like something I'd go for, but...I love it. At first, I thought it was a bit shallow, and it is at some points. But I've seen the first 13 episodes and its broken away from that alot. First and foremost, it is hilarious. The boys are so full of themselves that they think this whole thing is going to be a breeze. You know that's not going to be the case as soon as Sunako makes her first, Grudge-like appearance. She's the best thing ever. I don't want to spoil it so I won't say too much, but it is more than amusing to watch her be forced through the terrifying gauntlet of all things girly.
There are a few downsides thought. For one, I'm not crazy about all of the character design. The boys have the most feminine lips that I've ever seen. Characters spend alot of time in chibi form and when large groups of people are needed in a scene, the background characters are drawn as mostly featureless, white, chibi-dolls. Secondly, Sunako isn't really an ugly girl and I just want to slap her and anyone else who says so. Third and final, the boys' looks and their reaction to it makes you kind of want to roll your eyes sometimes. I mean, they make it sound so tragic to be beautiful.
So, if after all that you still want to check it out, click here (subscription needed): http://www.narutofan.com/plus/anime/yamato%20nadeshiko%20shichi%20henge%20anime%20downloads.html
because for some reason this title isn't listed on the master list of anime downloads.
I titled this part one, so hopefully I'll have more for you on a different anime in the future.
